Protecting your plants during the harsh summer sun.
Want your plants to die in the hot summer sun? No? Then read further to find out the best way to keep this from happening.
As we know, when it gets hot, the sun can wilt your plants, dehydrate them, and they'll eventually die.
So what we're looking at is to cover them. Our Australian summer is like no other in the world. Hot! And it is just getting warmer each year.
What we need to do is we need to protect our plants.
To do that, we need to put a shade over them, water them and mulch.
To protect your plants from the direct sun, build a physical shade frame.
So we've come up with the Shade-cube.
It is built with 8 x 3-way connectors, 12 x 20mm PVC plumbing pressure pipe all in 20mm, Snapclamps, and shade cloth.
To build the shade-cube connect the PVC pipe to the 3 way PVC connectors pushing the PVC pipe into the connectors. You can also use a rubber mallet to push the pipes in making sure they do not come apart. Once you have made the cube, cover the cube with shadecloth, and attach the Snapclamps.
You can use some shadecloth that you already have or go to a gardening store and purchase what you require.
If you want to shade your plants on the top and all sides go right down to the bottom, put the Snapclamps on the bottom pipe, and pull it all tight to do this all you do this grab and twist.
Snapclamps, 10 cm long each and we've put two on each side per meter.
Now that's all done, it's beautifully shaded to protect your plants from the hot sun.
You can take it off if it's a cooler day, you can move them around, put them on different plants, and then when you're finished with the shade-cube, pull it apart and store it way till next summer or make another project with the PVC connectors.
Follow this link 20 mm category so you can find the pipes, the snap clamps, and the 3-ways.
The 20mm 3-ways, are made in Australia. We are proud to have those Australian made.
